I\'m an American and just recently heard that Smarties, in the rest of the world, were chocolate candies and not the chalky candy I grew up with. I tried these chocolate Smarties and am confident in stating that Americans aren\'t missing a thing. They tasted like cheap M&M\'s. I\'ll keep my Smarties colorful, chalky and delicious. Hold the chocolate.

Weird:I don\'t think I could live in a country that called Rockets \"smarties\" and didn\'t have real \"smarties\".

I suppose as long as you\'ve got Reese\'s Pieces, I can survive.They\'re better than smarties anyways.

Weird. On chalky Smarties, it\'s written MADE IN CANADA!

When I first came to the States from Ireland I was infinitely disappointed when someone offered me Smarties and I got chalk tablets instead of chocolate. I suppose it\'s what you grow up on but Smarties are way better than M&M\'s IMO.

Chocolate Smarties beat the hell out of the other Smarties AND M&Ms. Americans don\'t seem to like good chocolate, they prefer Hersheys.

    ; )

On topic, in this Parallel there is a clear reason for a name change! Quite often it is a mystery, like Ritz/Jatz crackers for example.

Honestly, this made me laugh. And it\'s not only because the same things sit at the bottom of my trick-or-treat bag. Yes, even those orange and black molasses candies.. Erm, if that\'s what they were supposed to be?

I\'m Canadian and I laugh at the thought of Rockets being called Smarties. But, I am an M&M person myself. Especially now that Smarties has their \"No Artificial Colours\" thing now. They used to be good, but the colour change is gross. My taste buds dislike natural colours.

I randomly came across this post.

A few months back, I was driving down random roads in Union, New Jersey (USA) and came across an old looking blue brick building that had a very faded hand painted Smarties sign on the side and under that it said Ce De CANDY, inc.

It was a Sunday.I couldn\'t believe what I had found.I drove around the building to check it out and a car pulled up along side my car.The gentleman asked if I needed anything, and obviously I asked if this was really where they made Smarties. He said yes and that he was the president of the company. He then told me to wait a few minutes and walked inside. He came out with 5lb of Smarties for me!I was so excited.

I noticed that some of the packaging said \"Made in Canada\" and the other packaging did not. Both batches were nearly identical. Maybe one was a bit more chalky than the other, but different batches from the same equipment could have slightly different consistency as well.

Just thought that this would be interesting to add to the discussion.

I grew up near Fargo, ND, and we had those nasty black and orange molasses candies too! Getting those for Halloween was a huge disappointment.
