Should have kept it simple, I liked Vegemite \"Smooth\". It was actually quite embarrassing when I heard iSnack 2.0 :S Their justification was iSnack (as in an action taken) and 2.0 as in second generation. Lame.

The whole \'i\' naming convention is terrible enough as it is, we don\'t need food products using it as well. The name was already quite dated in my opinion, you can imagine how lame and irrelevant the name would be in 5 years time.

The shortlisted names are just as bad. Surely there was better out there than this crap?

The whole thing is a massive fail - but doesn\'t mean I\'ll stop eating Vegemite. I\'ll be steering well clear of \"insert new product name here\" though.

If they are going to take public suggestions it would have made sense to short list them and poll public opinion in the first place. Surely major brands don\'t launch without checking the likely reaction to a name?

Unintentional publicity stunt my ass - if people in general cringe, they must have been well aware of this prior to launch

Well calculated if the product is \"flying off the shelf\"

As an Australian (and an ex-JWT Despatch boy of the late Sixties) I can assure that we\'re still annoyed that the brand was sold to the U.S. company Kraft. And we\'re equally pissed off that the Yanks nabbed Speedo as well. Both these brands are icons and not to be messed with. \"Cheesybite\" sucks as well. You know what \"cheesy\" means?
Reminds me of what Virgin called their new Australian airline (and still do) - \"Virgin Blue\". \"Blue\" in the vernacular means a \"fight\" or a \"redheaded person\" or a \"mistake\".As in \"Kraft made a big blue calling the new Vegemite iSnack 2.0\".

lol, new name is fail. So is iSnack 2.0 for that matter.

why doesn\'t Stephen Colbert get in on the voting?

  10. Jonathan PattersonOct 20 2009 11:21 PM

I thought the whole \"2.0\" buzzword was generally frowned upon anyhow. I find it perplexing that given the fleeting history of the term they still picked that as the name. Maybe a year and a half ago that might have worked, but even then, the term was still suspect.

@Dave Sparks– Agreed. Haven\'t these \"experts\" ever heard of a focus group?

  12. Ian HoughtonOct 25 2009 10:21 PM

I thought \'V2\' might have worked quite well.Has all the next-gen connotations without the cheesy veneer, and has the advantage of not being a gigantic cliche like Cheesybite.Regardless, it\'s a horrible product.None of the character of the original Vegemite.I wish I\'d bought a few slabs of the iSnack 2.0 version though, they\'re going for upwards of $200 on eBay.

Why not just call it \"salty yeast extract and cream cheese blend spread?\"
