Not a huge fan of the new logo or typeface. Very \"meh.\"

  2. Jeff WolffAug 2 2009 2:30 AM

Not feeling the new typeface either :|

  3. anaAug 2 2009 5:52 AM

i don\'t like it. the splat is NOT at all \"DATED\" its aleady a well known trademark. BOO

  4. RlenAug 2 2009 6:50 AM

    I prefer the old logo.

  5. sasquatchAug 2 2009 10:36 AM

I really don\'t like the new logo. The splat and all the \'toy\' logo variations were excellent. This is a terrible idea, the change is too drastic and it doesn\'t say \'fun\' like the old logo did.

  6. BenAug 2 2009 11:12 AM

I liked the versatility of the splat logo, but this new one\'s not so bad, tis a nice typeface.

  7. Nathan GarvieAug 2 2009 12:09 PM

I think there\'s serious confusion issues with the new wordmark because at first glance it looks like Nintendo\'s typeface. They both also start with \'ni\', the \'e\' and \'n\' both look like nintendo\'s type and are huge brands with younger demographics. Not definitive enough.

  8. Michael LynchAug 2 2009 1:07 PM

From a design point of view, I actually like the new typeface and the \'i\' is well done. From a branding view, it\'s a big risk, and I\'m not sure how successful they will be with their rebranding of the children companies. Some say having multiple identities is counter productive; Nickelodeon should probably have kept one identity and built it into each channel\'s branding seamlessly, rather than having unrelated identities with different color schemes and styles. At least they got the titles right.

  9. TJ WalshAug 2 2009 1:17 PM

i would have simply refreshed and simplified the splat brand. the new brand is very boring and doesn\'t speak to Nick, in my opinion.

dangerous move from a brand recognition standpoint to stray so far, so fast.

  10. b.r.o.o.d.y.Aug 2 2009 1:29 PM

I hate this new \"rounded typeface\" trend that is spreading like the plague nowadays. Thanks, Kodak, for unleashing this horror upon the world.

This change doesn\'t really make any sense to me... I always thought Nick had a really solid branding. Maybe they\'ve had some financial losses lately, well, I doubt it has anything to do with the brand itself, maybe that\'s just karma for cancelling Invader Zim. I\'ll never forgive that!

  11. MarigailAug 2 2009 3:19 PM

    There goes my childhood...

  12. AdamAug 2 2009 6:13 PM

I agree, not sure about the typeface. I think it should be more fun, since it\'s a kids network, and maybe incorporated the \"splat\" as the dot of the \"i.\"

  13. JoshAug 2 2009 6:54 PM

b.r.o.o.d.y.: You seriously think Kodak started the rounded logo trend? really?

  14. LaceyAug 2 2009 7:01 PM

I\'m not liking the new logo,
it should stay the same as it\'s always been.

    its not outdated
    its a known thing.

changing so much stuff could hurt you
    in the long run

  15. FrederikAug 2 2009 7:54 PM

So Nick can\'t change their logo because some are emotionally attached to the splat? You aren\'t the target group anymore, I hardly think this will be the demise of the channel.

It looks fresh and is a much needed update. I always hated that splat.

  16. rileyanneAug 2 2009 7:55 PM

Eugh, not a pretty logo. The splat is classic and fun!
I dislike the brand recognition they\'re going for as well. Saying \"There\'s this show on teennick,\" is incredibly embarrassing compared to \"There\'s this show on The N.\" Not as bad as the SciFi-Syfy switch, but close.

  17. nerdluckAug 2 2009 8:56 PM

The old logo wasn\'t dated... It was iconic, versatile and IT WORKED well. Nickelodeon didn\'t need this rebranding

  18. Anthony SchiavinoAug 2 2009 10:48 PM

First SighFy (SyFy) did the rebranding and now Nickelodeon. Was there any real reason to do this? Or was it just for the sake of. I don\'t get it. I don\'t think they get it. Another poor branding job turning the original into the mediocre.

  19. HappyAug 3 2009 1:20 AM

.... I don\'t like it... I like the splat! The new one is so... dull. like everything else... please... don\'t change it!!!!! please? The splat is fun. everyone likes to have fun. but the new one is... just another logo flying by.. You don\'t want that. WE don\'t want that!

  20. Michele SavoldiAug 3 2009 9:07 AM

Because of this story I asked my two Nick watching children what they thought of the logo. Nickelodeon might be surprised at their answers.

    http://www.columbusimpressions.com/2009/08/nickelodeon-turns-30-and-gets-facelift.html

  21. Joe NickloAug 3 2009 9:59 AM

Seeing as I grew up with the Nickelodeon brand I\'m very much used to the old brand — in saying that I am trying my hardest to \"like\" the new logo but it just isn\'t happening.

I agree with Anthony Schiavino\'s comment. It feels like this was \"just for the heck of it\". The reasoning Nickelodeon gave for changing the logo was piss poor. Who cares if all of the sub-brands don\'t match on the business card. Change the logos of the sub-brands!

  22. juniorAug 3 2009 2:04 PM

    HATE IT!!!it its boring!!!!!

  23. Tiny MontgomeryAug 3 2009 2:08 PM

    TROPICANA redux.

  24. Retro420Aug 3 2009 2:14 PM

I agree with most. The new logo isn\'t exciting what so ever. But remember Nick is owned by the powerhouse Viacom, so from what I\'ve read, they aren\'t getting the ad revenue like they want.I guess making it boring will attract ads...?

  25. Tom IngramAug 3 2009 2:30 PM

Put the new logo INSIDE the 1984 logo and you may have something!

  26. ChristineAug 3 2009 2:56 PM

Yeah..... I love all the other logos.... But this one? Not so much. At all. No offense, but this one is actually quite boring. Any company can put bubble letters for their logo, but not many can have the SPLAT! I love the splat. It shouldn\'t be taken away..... Sorry. But this, I am not a fan of....

    :/

  27. jennAug 3 2009 3:11 PM

    Bring back the SPLAT!

  28. RachelAug 3 2009 3:24 PM

this reminds me way to much of the starburst font, and its not that eye catching, it just bleeds in with other text. what a shame they changed it.

  29. DaniellaAug 3 2009 3:40 PM

new one is not original at all

  30. KateAug 3 2009 4:02 PM

Haha why did they put all of those logos on their business card. It makes me laugh haha....all this so they can look like grown ups when handing out a Nickelodeon Business card....does anyone else find it ironic. It is a kids network. Hmmm well the splat will be missed, what will they get rid of next the slime??? Oh wait they kind of have been doing that. Boo to them,

  31. Mary-CaitAug 3 2009 4:11 PM

LAME. Super lame. I loved the splash.

  32. KadeAug 3 2009 8:52 PM

    BOO! Very Lame!

  33. Tommy LeeAug 4 2009 12:49 AM

    LAME!!!!! BOOO!!!

  34. JasonAug 4 2009 3:34 AM

uninspiring to say the least. If Nickelodeon wanted to rally around this new brand, why not just drop their name to nick. This typeface and treatment seems really....half assed. The only think I like is the \"i\".

  35. abelAug 4 2009 6:38 AM

    hmmm....not vey goo ha\'?

  36. JennAug 4 2009 7:37 AM

this article just ruined my day lol..... i loved everything about nick when i was a kid... i don\'t see how this new logo is \"refreshing\" in any way... it\'s the opposite of refreshing to me... it looks like they\'re trying to conform to other product logos... splat all the way

  37. KeiferscoolAug 4 2009 8:22 AM

I have been a Nick fan since day 1.
37 yrs later......I still love the original \"Splat\"!!!
Please, don\'t modify it, why change a good thing.
I understand change is good, and people don\'t like changes, but this is an ICONIC Symbol of our childhood.

Thumbs down on the new logo.

  38. HannahAug 4 2009 8:26 AM

Gotta say that I pretty much hate the new logo. Who are they marketing to now? Cause let me just tell you...the new \"nickelodeon\" is forgetable. VERY forgetable. The splat however, will ALWAYS be associated with Nickelodeon.
Go back to the classic splat, please!

  39. jamieAug 4 2009 8:50 AM

This is very disappointing. The logo looks like something anybody could have come up with in an introduction to Photoshop class. Even if they have strong convictions for the logo change (I disagree with it), Nickelodeon could have kept it more kid friendly and less \"innovative\". To Cyma Zarghami and her team, you fail..

  40. SamAug 4 2009 9:16 AM

Coca-cola is the most recognized logo ever and I don\'t think it went through too many changes over the years if any. The new Nick logo reminds me of Dunkin\' Donuts. And it\'s retro font is dated, not time-tested.

  41. YetiMadeAug 4 2009 9:29 AM

Personally, I like the old logo better. Maybe updating the typeface inside of the old logo, sure. I agree with the idea of including \"Nick\" in all of the brands to streamline them, but how about making them as versatile as the SPLAT?

Sorry, but the new logo just gets lost on the graphics and doesn\'t really stand out.

This whole rounded typeface thing that I\'m seeing kinda reminds me of when I was in school and everyone wanted to use Bauhaus for everything. And you know what? It never looked good. Ever.

  42. DBKUGirlAug 4 2009 10:17 AM

My 6 and a half yr old likes the old logo better. He can\'t recognize the channel without the splat. I don\'t understand why they felt that a revamping was necessary. If they want to re-vamp, then maybe they should re-vamp some of the shows!

  43. johnAug 4 2009 10:30 AM

this new logo is a snore. it\'s taken the character of the channels right out the window. total snore. and a total lean towards mediocrity.

  44. maryAug 4 2009 10:34 AM

The best thing about the ever changing splat was that it reflected the ever-changing kid in all of us. This new logo has a great type lockup...but that doesn\'t make it a good logo for the channel. Nickelodeon has always had spunk and energy. This logo just looks like it\'s trying to hard to be clean and simple and Apple-like.

  45. ArturoAug 4 2009 10:40 AM

Nickelodeon...what have you done?! This is a bad move.

  46. JennyAug 4 2009 10:45 AM

    whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?????

  47. AndrewAug 4 2009 11:02 AM

Growing up with Nicelodeon, watching shows like Figure it Out, Ledgends of the Hidden Temple, Family Double-Dare...not to mention all of the great cartoons...the *splat* was a great logo and i could remember the shows by it...in the future if i look at the \"new and improved\" logo there is no show i can relate it to...

P.S. In today\'s economy you need something like the *splat* to stand out...*wink* *wink*

  48. CharlesAug 4 2009 11:19 AM

Andrew is right. This is the time to stand out and be original. Not flounder like Pepsi and Tropicana and other places with last ditch rebrands to look new. I always thought of Nickelodeon as a trailblazer for kids, and now they are just joining the pack to look the same. Nick was always the odd kid out, who liked jokes and art and didn\'t hang with the in-crowd. Now it seems this rebrand is trying to cater to that jock in-crowd. Sigh.

  49. JakeAug 4 2009 11:25 AM

WAIT! Remember when Apple got rid of the rainbow stripes? Most people thought the new plain white Apple was blend, boring, etc... today their brand is strong as ever! Stop thinking now, and think BIG... it\'s not just about the logo, it is about the product. SpongeBob would\'ve been a hit even on FoodNetwork :)

  50. NicoleAug 4 2009 11:29 AM

Agree with Jake! Also, it is hard to judge the logo by itself when the medium is so fluid. Looking at the TeenNick boards above give you an idea of how hot the brand can look once it\'s all out there. The splat and the old typeface (Balloon?) just look out of place!

  51. TiffanyAug 4 2009 11:29 AM

why don\'t they just change it to the \"Spongebob channel\" and get it over with. seriously, Nickelodeon has gone downhill... this is just another [if not the final] nail in the coffin. it\'s sad.. very sad. even cartoon network has changed with the times... real people on a CARTOON network? wtf? the odd part is... the adults doing this are OUR age, and grew up seeing the splat and watching the shows like us... blasphemous.

  52. LeujinAug 4 2009 12:06 PM

This new logo does absolutely nothing for me. I really can\'t say anything about it that hasn\'t already been said: not kid friendly, not easily accessible, rounded type is very blah and I hate this trend because everything looks \"web 2.0\", etc. etc.

  53. nicko [rt]Aug 4 2009 12:29 PM

wtf they can\'t change the logo. super-bogus.

  54. ALICIA DILLONAug 4 2009 1:51 PM

I agree with TJ WALSH. Nickelodeon should have refined the splat brand.

  55. MarcelAug 4 2009 2:06 PM

I have to say I like the old logo more than the new one. That\'s just not Nickelodeon.

  56. RaqoAug 4 2009 2:44 PM

i think the old logo represents what kids are: fun, messy and care free. The new logo is too grown up!!!
    gunna miss the splat!!

  57. BearAug 4 2009 3:05 PM

I guess killing your own brand is contagious? Or they couldn\'t let SyFy beat them in the race to the bottom.

  58. johnAug 4 2009 3:26 PM

Did anyone remind them during the rebrand process that they were a kids\' channel and not a computer company?

  59. lauren gAug 4 2009 8:29 PM

How sad. The old branding was fun. I loved the way the splat could change it\'s shape. The \"surprise\" was so all about kids.

Nick used to ask kids how they felt about the brand. Why do I feel the final decision this time was an adult/marketing person (Cyma Zarghami?) who wanted to make their own \"mark\".

Nick you forgot to ask the kids (and the kids at heart) who are your audience!

  60. LingAug 5 2009 12:25 AM

I love how this came about because the logos didn\'t look good on a business card together. Way to go. Alone, the new logo looks fine I guess. But the counters look as if they wouldn\'t hold up once it got below an inch big. Who even designed this? It looks like something a design student would make. It\'s cohesive and \"nice\" but really doesn\'t fit the client at all. Leave it to business people to make the decisions. Why not actually talk to real people. This change went too far. I can see wanting to unify the brands, but this really went out in left field...but not in a good way.

  61. CarlAug 5 2009 12:34 AM

This looks horrible. I hate that \"i\" and how it mimics a poorly drawn symbol of a person. *Wait* It *is* a poor symbol of a person. This attempt is bad bad bad. Hopefully this is like when Coke tried to rebrand and then decided to revert to their original look.

  62. TristanAug 5 2009 7:44 AM

Oh shit, another bad blah pedestrian logo. I would have never thought this would happen to Nickelodeon.

  63. holyAug 5 2009 10:25 AM

    the DESIGN is not bad.

nickelodeon and their visual branding is very close to people\'s hearts which is why changing it will provoke visceral responses.

personally, i like the splatter and will miss it.

but! they\'re using streamlined splatter-ish shapes in the animation festival 2009 design, which is reminiscient of the old paint splatter.

i\'m interested to see how else they will implement the new logo as well as other supporting elements.

  64. MegAug 5 2009 10:27 AM

Didn\'t they ever hear, if it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it? This just needed unification, not a complete redesign and discarding of their strongest visual besides Spongebob.

  65. John Mindiola IIIAug 5 2009 10:32 AM

They\'re getting rid of the name The N? Darn it. I really thought that name had a healthy infusion of attitude. I like the new graphic direction of TeenNick, but the name is just silly. I mean, really, TeenNick? They probably wanted to go with NickTeen, but it sounded too much like a cigarette ingredient.

Graphically speaking, I\'m glad they\'re getting rid of Bazooka as their logo font, but what is this new, pedestrian font? Nickelodean is/was all about fun, almost irreverence. Thank goodness they kept the trademark orange color!

  66. JinglesAug 5 2009 10:37 AM

McDonalds should probably just get rid of that M too.It\'s pretty old, and it\'s not like anyone will recognize it anyway.

    ...right?

  67. RobAug 5 2009 11:05 AM

I agree with TJ. This presented a great opportunity to just tighten up and modernise the splat. Clean up the lettering, make subtle changes. A redesign does not need to be a a ground up operation.

It will be years before the backlog of nick toys and collateral with the old logos are out of the stores. Until then, complete branding purgatory.

  68. JCAug 5 2009 11:19 AM

Maybe they should just rebrand with a cooler, hipper name like Radio Shack, Pizza Hut and the SciFi Channel have done.

    \"Nyk\"
    \"The Nick\"
    \"Nyckylodyn\"

I smell a winner. (sarcastic tone unavailable on your browser)

  69. ReitelleAug 5 2009 11:26 AM

I don\'t like the idea of them changing The-N to teen nick it sounds corny. I find it to be quite well expected for them to change the logo, just as they have changed the programming. These new shows they have are so boring and generic its almost like a pathetic attempt at imitating Cartoon Network
    : /

  70. PaulaAug 5 2009 12:31 PM

This change was idiotic. Replace a widely-recognizeable logo with a typed-out word? What\'s the point? What was this supposed to accomplish? I don\'t get it. Of course, at least they kept the correct spelling. SciFi changing to \"SyFy\" made me sick to my stomach.

  71. FlashAug 5 2009 1:25 PM

I can understand wanting to update an image and a logo is a good way to start. But why such a bland Logo. It spells no creativity or fun. Just bland, like are kids are apparently if they actually get into this. Actually there have been alot of really rediculous company changes lately. Sci-Fi becomes SyFy? Pizza Hut just becomes The Hut? (Good call their Jabba)
Seriously, what the hell is going on?

  72. MandyAug 5 2009 2:25 PM

Updates are important, look at nick today, the splat thing does not fit in with where they are at right now. Sure its not what WE are all used to, but kids now days probably didnt even know what the slime was! Its a trendy, easy to market logo, why not.

I can think of a million ways to use this \"typed-out word\" logo in almost any situation, the splat however, would not work nearly as well, I see exactly what they are saying..

  73. jublinAug 5 2009 2:41 PM

Just read the two kid opinions posted on the other blog you linked. It\'s interesting that both kids strongly disliked the new \"nickelodeon\" logo but really enjoyed the \"teen nick\". I mean they\'re basically the same thing. I wonder if it has to do with just the subtle gradients and 3D effect.

  74. Brian McLernonAug 5 2009 4:22 PM

Can\'t wait to quiz my 8 year old daughter on this, this evening. I think I know what she\'ll say though!

  75. Andrea HillAug 5 2009 4:55 PM

I\'m sorry to see the splat go, as well as \"noggin\"! Nick Jr. doesn\'t have the same fun-yet-educational ring to it.

  76. sara HartAug 5 2009 5:08 PM

    HATE THE NEW LOGO!!! :(

  77. FantikerzAug 5 2009 9:49 PM

That was one of the images of my youth, and of course it would be one that I would disapprove of if changed.

That said, I\'m starting to get a bit annoyed by the basic typographic look of new logos. Airline liveries, for example, are just riddled with euro white and basic typography. Not much creativity there.

  78. Chelo CvLAug 5 2009 9:49 PM

Uhm, not a huge fan of the new logo. Liked the slime better; it was more playful.

  79. NiniAug 5 2009 11:38 PM

I think the splat was effective based on the fact that it\'s a children\'s network and not all children can necessarily read. That being said, the orange splat helped with this issue by acting as a recognizable friend or seal of approval. Now that the logo is simply type, I doubt it will work the same way.

  80. JeremyAug 6 2009 7:53 AM

The new logo is unoriginal and looks like every other redesign with all the rounded corners. Nickelodeon just went from zany wacky and fun to just like everyone else. Way to go.

  81. VictorAug 6 2009 8:50 AM

Excuse me, but this new logo really sucks! The problem is that the logo scheme was better to make modified Nickelodeon logos, like an orange elephant or bird with \"Nickelodeon\" on it.

    Victor

  82. TravisRAug 6 2009 8:58 AM

I agree with Victor, this new logo takes the fun and actual kid factor out of the kids network. It does really suck!

  83. SamsonAug 6 2009 9:03 AM

Can\'t anyone just let kids be kids? The new logo looks like it\'s for another crappy froyo shop, not a kids/cartoon channel!

  84. JohnAug 6 2009 9:11 AM

There\'s rebranding and then there is taking an iconic brand and destroying all the equity built up over 30 years, resulting in vanilla. It may not be fashionable, but newness ain\'t always the way to go chaps. Ref: Coca Cola!

  85. Ian HoughtonAug 6 2009 10:41 AM

This brings to mind the redesign of Tropicana.Taking a fun, established logo, and redesigning for the sake of it into something more \'contemporary\' (read: quite boring). While I don\'t think the rebrand will have quite the same negative response from consumers due to the different media the company operates in, I do think it\'s removing character from the brand\'s image.

  86. JacobJAug 6 2009 7:36 PM

It\'s great to see the MBA-laden empty suits hand wringing over a logo for a network that can\'t even figure out who or what the hell it is any more. Do they honestly think that kids or advertisers really care what the logo is? The same problem exists at the SCI FI channel.

PROGRAMMING: THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS

  87. AnotherPersonAug 7 2009 12:19 AM

I wonder if their stock is going to go down in this already bad economy for Viacom now that this terrible logo is being launched. Who wants to buy shares of a company that doesn\'t even know what its identity is anymore?! And JacobJ, this logo has \"MBA-laden suits\" written all over the look of it. Yuck.

  88. LuisAug 7 2009 1:27 AM

Lame. I never really watched Nick, but I have to say I did like their old logo. Whenever someone mentioned Nickelodeon I thought of the splat.

The new logo is for lame people! Fun people like splats!

  89. Kiel WestAug 7 2009 2:49 AM

Bummer. I was born in 1983, and I consider myself a proud member of the Nickelodeon generation. Just looking at the previous, more cartoony typeface brings feelings of joy and laughter. It\'s a damn shame to see that go. This new typeface seems to me an attempt to appeal to an older audience--or rather, to beckon the youth to be more hip than they ought to be. Nickelodeon was never about trends and fashion statements in my youth. It was purely about fun and imagination.

This is a logo for 7 year olds with cell phones and navel piercings.

  90. SamAug 7 2009 3:14 AM

I see why they thought they needed this change, but it could have been done much better. The splat is very dated, but is still iconic... maybe they\'ll keep it for a while to help transition Nick to the new logo.

  91. Jacob HaltonAug 7 2009 4:27 AM

hahaha, when I look at the new logo, I\'m filled with disgust, only because I grew up with the splat.

I think teenagers might not like it but the little kids won\'t care, they just wanna watch the shows.

  92. Jonathon WartonAug 8 2009 10:33 AM

This is so mediocre it hurts.

  93. Horace B. FaulknerAug 8 2009 8:09 PM

C\'mon guys, it hasn\'t always been a splat plus it doesn\'t look that bad. Btw you people who talk about your childhood are just immature. Your childhood is over, nothing can \"destroy\" it. Besides if you\'re saying that, you must not be a child anymore therefor you really shouldn\'t be watching Nick because it\'s not targeting you. Go watch something for people of your own age and stop living in the past.

  94. jeffAug 8 2009 11:03 PM

always see positive in change, the previous logo probably needs change, and in time if it doesnt click, then its off to the drawing boards for nicks artists. just go with the flow. change is a constant thing and its nickelodeons time to evolve to new heights.

  95. MattAug 8 2009 11:41 PM

    http://www.adamwentworth.com/work/36/

Whoa, I gotta say, the new logo MIGHT have some potential..

  96. goutAug 8 2009 11:59 PM

Jake: Apple succeeded where Nickelodeon has steadily failed over the last few years because of PRODUCT. You\'re right - SpongeBob would have been a hit anywhere - and that\'s precisely Nick\'s problem.

In the 10 years since SB\'s \'birth\', Nick has failed to produce a hit of even half of SB\'s magnitude (Dora the Explorer doesn\'t count by virtue of its Nick Jr. branding). While series like Jimmy Neutron and Fairly OddParents produced great ratings leading in or drafting off of SB airings, the truth is that Nick stopped being a destination for artists and cartoonists a long time ago.

(This could be attributable to Viacom\'s heavy-handed treatment of great creative/myopic business minds John Kricfalusi and Jhonen Vasquez, but that\'s another thread entirely.)

And when the good shows dry up...so do the eyeballs. Dan Schneider\'s live action efforts (like the great iCarly sitcom) can\'t hold a candle to Cartoon Network\'s momentum over the last 18 months.

And THAT\'s how you better your kids business: with style, new content that matters and a little rolling of the dice...THEN use that momentum to rebrand.

With their creative drought, lost momentum and smaller ad sales pool to drink from (Disney\'s switch to ads certainly hasn\'t helped matters - even if they don\'t truly know what the hell they\'re doing, either), this rebranding/logo change/whatever smacks of desperation.

And for such a great, beloved kids brand...that just plain sucks.

  97. JedAug 9 2009 10:05 AM

They haven\'t done anything but hawk commercials for years. The programming sucks and is a thinly veiled ad delivery system for kids. They deserve to go down the toilet. Les Lye must be spinning in his grave.

  98. EmAug 9 2009 12:55 PM

Gout, you\'re my hero. This rebrand looks like desperation.

  99. JennaAug 9 2009 3:12 PM

    Boring and trite. Ugh.

While the splat was beloved, I admit it was getting a tiny bit old. I agree that it was time for a change, but... is this the best they could do?

    Where\'s the imagination? Where\'s the child-like energy?
It\'s sad to think that this logo is reflecting what kids are like today: Trendy, unimaginative, and serious...

//Insert expected rant about how nick was way better in the 90\'s.

  100. Walt SniderAug 10 2009 10:37 AM

    I love it!

  101. KenAug 10 2009 4:06 PM

Nickelodeon just went down the tube with this logo. It\'s reeeeeally bad.

  102. Splat Fan 600Aug 10 2009 10:01 PM

I liked the old \"splat\" logo. I mean, on all the TV shows it says Nickelodeon, and then the name of the show, and yes it uses the splat logo. What\'s wrong with the splat? That\'s what makes it unique, am I right? It\'s a classic, I\'ve liked all the changes Nick has made so far, but this I ain\'t lovin\'. KEEP THE SPLAT, NICKELODEON!!!!!! We\'ll all miss it.

  103. AnonymousAug 11 2009 11:46 AM

Guys, shut up.Just shut up.You\'re all being whiny babies.I say live and let live, so if they want to change their logo, then it\'s their business, not yours.

Horace B. Faulkner brings up a great point:Nickelodeon was NOT MADE FOR YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC.Sure, you were kids once, but that was a long time ago (for most of you, I assume). You don\'t remember how you were as a kid, nor do you know how the kids of today are.For all you know, there could be a huge difference between children of different times. Those two kids on the other blog may not like the new logo, but everyone has a different opinion.

Also, I am SICK of everyone who says that Nickelodeon has hit rock bottom.By the way, Jed, I honestly feel like smacking you in the face for using the term \"they deserve it,\" but I won\'t because I\'m above that.Last time I checked an article, last year (2008) was their HIGHEST rated year EVER.On top of that, even though I\'m an adult (19-years old, actually), I LOVE a lot of the shows they have on right now.

I will admit that Cyma Zarghami has made quite a few \"bone-headed\" move during her reign, such as cancelling shows way too early, but she\'s honestly the ONLY problem I have with the network right now.

So unless I here news about Nickelodeon doing something that\'s actually hurting people, then shut up.Go pick on something that was actually made for your age group.

  104. HahaAug 13 2009 5:22 PM

The issue is not that the old logo appealed to adults, but rather sent a different message to the kids.

I\'m not surprised that this logo appeals to a 19 year old that\'s obviously constipated.

  105. jeffAug 14 2009 8:19 AM

haha- that\'s hilarious. and the truth. i just feel as if this new logo is sending the message to kids that they can\'t be kids anymore. can\'t be funny and wacky and stuff. kids have to be streamlined, sleek and cool these days. act older than they are. at least that\'s what i feel the brand is saying now by changing to this. two thumbs down.

  106. IsabelleAug 14 2009 2:33 PM

It looks like every other logo. I understand this with the teen nick, which is already cool, but nick is supposed to be fun! Bleh.

  107. IsabelleAug 14 2009 2:35 PM

By the way, anonymous, I\'m 10. I hate everything becoming cool. Again, bleh.

  108. isobelleAug 15 2009 4:48 PM

just bad. if it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it. well said.

wait there\'s a teen nick? how out of it am i? i still remember pinwheel! and i remember when teen shows were one night a week...\"snick\"!

  111. Nick (ironic huh?)Aug 17 2009 11:48 PM

What the @!#? is wrong with this logo!!! Where\'s the splat!!! I\'m telling ya, Nick\'s making a hell of a mistake! #*@! this new logo!

  112. collinAug 17 2009 11:50 PM

nickelodeon, please don\'t change the logo. it\'s the best logo ever! we kids (or adults) need the splat.

  113. Steve TalkowskiAug 18 2009 5:25 PM

Personally, I think they should\'ve stuck with the modern splat and globe logo from the Network ID.That was a brilliant reinterpretation of the classic splat!

  114. JoolzAug 19 2009 9:58 AM

    They killed a symbol! WTF??
The new logo is nice, but the fun is absent. And the spirit of the constant muting logo that connected to MTV is out.
I dont\' understand why some branding strategists thinks that putting all into a template is a good solution.

  115. SigAug 19 2009 11:40 AM

I like the new logo, it takes Nick\'s classic orange and combines it with the original logo, paying homage to the channel\'s first 30 years. The splat worked great with shows like \"You Can\'t Do That on Television\" and \"Double Dare\". But like it or not, the slime era ended a long time ago.

Besides, I\'d have to think the transforming logo won\'t go away entirely, unless they decide to hand out new statues at the Kids\' Choice Awards.

  116. Mike72Sep 29 2009 12:52 AM

    AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!
Just watch that \'Re Launch\' vid and you get a sense of the \'generic\' direction Nick seems to be moving in - are those sickly-sweet, pseudo-indie, super glossy \'kids\' really the heart + soul of Nick?! Save me...

  117. Jonathan CarnehlSep 29 2009 9:44 AM

Woah guys. Set aside your nostalgia for a second and think of the design. The new identity is actually a huge improvement. It kept the playfulness of the old mark but brought major improvements design-wise. It is very striking and reigned in all the weird variations under one consistent brand.

You should see what people are saying at http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/
    They love it!

  118. Jason SchwartzSep 29 2009 1:54 PM

I agree, the font face is an improvement, but the 1984-2009 splat/toy logos are classic, and should stick around.

I really like the Nick@Nite logo with the gradient, but it isn\'t used on any other applications (yes, I get it... day to night.)

I like the updated font choice and it does seem very kid friendly.

I\'d like to see where the ID goes as it grows.

  119. AbeOct 5 2009 12:50 AM

Hey guys! Listen, I know that most of you are mad at Nick\'s new change for the logo, but the fact is . . . it\'s not that bad. Don\'t get me wrong, because I LOVED the splat just as much as you guys (if not, more). It was my favorite part about Nickelodeon. But let\'s face it, change happens. They probably just wanted a new identity. I was mad at first when they changed the logo, but now I\'ve learned to accept it. And you will too someday. Instead of arguring about Nick\'s logo, let\'s just come together and salute Nickelodeon, may they have a great new identity. No matter what they do, Nickelodeon will always be #1!

  120. Dan LondonOct 5 2009 4:21 PM

What agency designed it? Was it in-house?

  121. LogoMottoOct 6 2009 6:19 PM

I can\'t react right now. I guess it will take sometime to absorb the new branding.Once everyone sees it more often it will become remarkable.

It\'s sad to say goodbye to the old memories of \"splat\".

Good strategy though, the market heard yah!

  122. kvweberOct 9 2009 9:02 PM

I have to say, as a university student majoring in New Media who still watches Spongebob on a daily basis- I LOVE the new logo. The wordmark seems much more clean and fresh than the old splat which was beginning to feel very dated. They kept their signature orange hue and the \"i\" in the font is enough, in my opinion, to bring the idea of the slime around. I also really like the animations that they created with the logo (I do miss the laughter that accompanied the logo at the end of shows, but it\'s a small price to pay for an updated identity). The current generation of Nick watchers probably don\'t even care about the state of the new logo, but I really think it\'s a good update. And you have to admit that the Nick Jr. font is very cute.

  123. DeaniacOct 18 2009 10:16 PM

Alright, I like the new logo now. It\'s very nice and sleek looking. And I love how Nick treats it in bumpers/production logos; it\'s probably the most creative they\'ve been in a while.

But the Nicktoons bumpers....oh God, they went all out using the logo:
    http://roger.tv/post/NICKTOONS_ReBrand09_HR/NICKTOONS_ReBrand_2009.html

You have to watch it to see how awesome it is.

  124. Rochelle PascaleDec 4 2009 2:08 AM

The new logo sucks plain and simple, there is no debate. It sucks and here\'s why:

For channels like Nick@Night and TeenNick it\'s fantastic because it\'s orderly and calm. I find something jazzy and night-life-esque about it.

For channels like Nick Jr it\'s just plain stupid, are they aware of the fact that 4 year olds can\'t EFFING read?? With the programming they have on there now, it\'ll be a long time before kids are able to develop those skills...

Dora: Can you see the square? Can you see the SQUARE

*Square is right in front of their face.

They don\'t want to teach kids anything, they want to PANDER to them so they can make more dough. There is no art or quality to any of these shows and it\'s frankly embarrassing to see them on tv. If I ever have kids I\'ll never let them watch such mindless, intelligence/creativity sucking shows.

I\'d like to point out that kids who watch Nickelodeon CAN read, but don\'t want to...

And the shows are also devoid of substance as well. There is not one redeeming show on Nickelodeon, not one. They destroyed Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents and now they\'re just self destructing. It\'s interesting to watch something so iconic implode due to greed.

  125. JeruJan 13 2010 12:37 PM

Art snobs. There\'s some funny comments in here.

  126. fabio de donnoFeb 18 2010 7:10 AM

will need some more time look at new branding in detail
but I was and am a HUGEEEE! fan of the previous branding

the orginal morphing brand shape with type was a stroke of genius...

  127. Nickelodeon RomaniaFeb 28 2010 9:28 AM

    Slime
    Nickelodeon Romania

  128. MingoMar 9 2010 3:48 PM

I liked the older logos better. It added personality and identity.
There is something about the \"n\" that bothers.... It should be capitalized or something.... Also for first time viewers you might miss out and read it as \"niok\", i think the \"c\" is too close together.
